I have built quite a few 6CB5A amps over the years. Just finished a new one. Here some photos of the finished amp and the assembly process showing the latest construction style.
The amp is a stereo unit with internal power supply, so all in one chassis.
Power supply section on the left and the amplifier section on the right.
The 'naked' top plate:
The back side of the top plate and the support plate for the chokes and signal transformers,
the small pate are for holding the capacitors in place.
Sockets and switches mounted:
Some of the resistors mounted to the underside:
Wiring up the power supply section:
Capacitors mounted and some more wiring done:
First level complete:
The subassembly with all chokes, interstage and output transformers:
The subassembly mounted to the main plate and wired up:
The amp gets tested before it is inserted into the wooden frame:

This is a reference model. Wish I could build and design this by myself. Question: where are you purchasing the metal top chassis mount with writings? Or do it by yourself?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike
Hi! They are made by a german supplier, Schaeffer AG
DeleteThomas, Another work of art! Keep em coming.....just beautiful.

Hi, Is there room in this chassis for XLR inputs ?
ReplyDeleteTim
yes
DeleteAlso is output transformers optimized for speakers ranging from 4 - 16 ohms since only one pair of taps?
ReplyDeleteTim
This one is for 8 Ohm speakers, 4 or 16 Ohm can be done with different OPTs
DeleteI'm ok with just 4 and 8 ohm tap transformers if possible on single chassis. And is the 8 watt power pushing this amp above its max ?
ReplyDeleteTim
Not sure what you mean by pushing above its max?
DeleteIf you have a 4 Ohm speaker a low power single ended amp is probably not the right choice. This amp is fixed output impedance
Is is possible to have both 4 and 8 ohm taps in case? Is 8 watts still within max safe limit ( for SE) of tube I mean.
ReplyDeleteTim
As I wrote this amp is fixed impedance. The bigger model has multi tap. Yes of course the amp is operated within safe limits. I am building and selling this type of amp since 12 years and they all are running ok. Maybe email would be better for further discussion
