Silver 46 Drives 46 Amplifiers

 Hi!

Here are some photos of the all silver mono amps which are being used with the recently featured silver D3a phono and silver 10Y line stage.

It is a single ended amplifier with the 46 as output tube and another 46 as driver tube.

Each amplifier produces a whopping 1250 milliWatts.

3 Silver transformers in each mono amp, input, interstage and output transformers.

Best regards

The Silver Differential 46 Mono Amplifiers - Part 2

Hi!

In the announcement of this years participation to the High End in Munich I mentioned that I will cover some of the amps which will be used for demo.

One of the amps will be the new finished all silver differential power amps. Initial construction steps of these have been shown in part 1.

A pair of 46 is driven by another pair of 46 using all silver transformers and plate chokes. 7 silver wound pieces in each mono block.

Each amp weighs over 40kg with a big part of that being silver. Admittedly that is a lot of weight for some 3.5W output power. But worth it. These are the best 46 amps I built so far.

Come to the Munich High End to room F231e to listen to these

The Silver Differential 46 Mono Amplifiers

Hi!

Here is the latest set of amplifiers in the works. The silver differential 46 monos.

After the introduction of the silver single ended 46 amps. and the first set of differential 46 amps, these are the logical next step. A pair of 46 tubes driving another pair of 46 through a silver interstage transformer and both driver tubes loaded with individual silver chokes. A similar configuration in the output stage and silver input transformers for splitting the phase for the different driver. This results in a total of 7 silver wound piece in each mono block.

The photos show the first level of components mounted directly under the top plate. On the levels below the power supply section will follow with 8 filter chokes in total, for very clean B+ and filament voltages.

These amps will be on demo at the upcoming Munich High End show along with some other new amplifiers. Stay tuned for updates about the gear showed in Munich

Best regards

46 Drive 46 Amps in Landscape Style

Hi!

Here are the photos of the newly finished single ended 46 amplifiers with 46 driver tube.

This time in 4 chassis, mono blocks with separate power supplies.

Finished with all black transformer covers and capacitors in walnut frames.

Amplifier Work in Progress

Hi!

A quick preview of 3 different amplifiers which are in different states of completion.

A set of 46 drive 46 amplifiers, but this time in landscape style and with Tamura output transformers.

Interstage will be a Tango.  Since they have different finishes, additional transformer covers will be placed over them. Due to the size of the Tamura it had to be mounted on a sub plate through a cut-out of the top plate.

300B mono blocks in tower chassis with 801A driver already finished, one the housing is missing.

Some pics of the internals.

And lastly a new set of ER887 drives ER845 mono blocks.

Assembly from top down.

Sub assembly with Output and Interstage transformer and some capacitors.

Build up of the amp, only the last level missing:

The power supply chassis is built in similar fashion.

Stay tuned for updates as these amps get finished.

The All Silver 46 Drive 46 Amplifier

Hi!

Last month I already mentioned the new all silver 46 drive 46 amplifier project. In the meantime they are finished.

The outer appearance is not different from previous 46/46 amplifier builds.

They also share the same circuit concept.

But this time all transformers are silver wound. That is 6 transformers in total, 3 per mono block.

As experienced in many other cases the silver wire makes a huge difference in transformers. Much more so than in simple signal wire.

This time the experience is similar again. Simply stunning voices. Super natural and warm sound. Not a 'tubey' too nice kind of warm but pure naturalness. This combined with breathtaking tone colors and high resolution.

I know it is hard to believe that the sound still keeps getting better. And I am always cautious with writing about sound superlatives. But I can confidently say this is the pinnacle of my work in power amplifiers up to now.

Of course these are the same low power as other 46 amps. 1.25W. But those are glorious one thousand two hundred fifty milliwatts! With the high sensitivity speakers this is heaven.

Best regards

Thomas
